If you have reached this website trough interactivo.nl, you noticed that interactivo.nl is not active anymore. I’ve redirected you to this new website designdirector.nl. I took my interactivo portfolio offline because the outdated Gallery 2 installation gave me problems and the work is old anyway. Of course I haven’t thrown all the work away. I’ll publish my best work on this website as soon as possible. Some work is already on the portfolio page

Next week I will be giving a presentation about T shaped and Sun shaped expertise. Its a new insight into the design process where (interface) designers can stay enthusiastic in their work instead of feeling unhappy or being pixel pusher.
Usually the designer is in between brand strategy and user experience. This way the designer needs to translate someone’s input in to someone’s idea of an outcome. This called the T shaped expertise.
Instead of putting the designer in between brand strategy and user experience, the designer’s passion is placed in the middle of a sun shape. The designer now beams his knowledge of other disciplines with overlapping rays moving outwards. In these overlapping fields the best ideas are born because this allows the interface designer to be involved in the other fields of expertise and give fresh insights.
If a designer’s sun shaped expertise is used instead of using the T shaped expertise model, it delivers a much better result.
I’ll be giving this presentation in dutch, based on this great article from Tanja de Bie and other articles from experience designer guru David Armano.

A personal letter from phoenix
Finally! I have been waiting for Phoenix to perform in the Netherlands for such a long time. Phoenix will be performing at club Trouw in Amsterdam the 4th of july. Last weekend I bought 6 tickets. 2 for myself and the other tickets I will probably give to friends or sell them online. Maybe you can still get some tickets here. I’m a selling my tickets! Ibiza: A Mediterranean Lifestyle
Yesterday we got this present from one of our relatives. The present was a book called: Ibiza, A Mediterranean Lifestyle.
This glossy hardcover book is such a nice gift. Especially because we like Ibiza so much. It visits about 30 houses on the island and gives you a a glimpse of their interiors. Some look over the top decadence, but others interiours give you tons of inspiration for a relaxed and comfortable home.
The book gives us even more inspiration and determination to move to this beautiful island.

A design director is a position usually found within the advertising, media, automotive or entertainment industries, but may be useful in other creative organizations such as web development and software development firms as well. The position has similarities to that of a creative director. The design director oversees the design of branding and advertising for a client and ensures that the new branding and advertising fits in with the client’s requirements and the image they wish to promote for their company or product. But unlike the creative director a design director is not responsible for the quality of the final creative work. But merely responsible for the final quality of the design within a creative project.
Another difference is that advertising creative directors are usually promoted from copywriting or art directing positions. Design Directors are promoted from senior designer positions.
